1967–1969 Camaro Floor Pan & Rust Repair Guide

By Ponyparts Hub · July 28, 2026

First-gen Camaros hide rust under the carpet better than most muscle cars — until a seat track punches through. 1967–1969 Camaro floor pan replacement is one of the most searched F-body restoration jobs, and it rarely stops at the floor alone. Here's how to scope the repair before you order sheet metal.

Where first-gen Camaros rust first

Inspect with carpet and insulation pulled:

  • Driver and passenger floor pans (heel areas and under seats)
  • Trunk pan and spare-tire well
  • Lower quarters and wheelhouses
  • Rocker panels and door bottoms
  • Cowl below the windshield (a notorious water trap)
  • Front subframe mounts and body bushings

A magnet and flashlight beat a seller's "solid floors" claim every time. Fresh undercoating is a red flag until you verify what's underneath.

Full floor assemblies vs sections

Reproduction full floor pan assemblies for 1967–1969 Camaro (and shared Firebird F-body) are widely available with weld-through primer. Many include under-rear-seat pans and extra metal near the transmission tunnel. Section panels work for small holes, but widespread Swiss-cheese floors deserve a full pan.

Important Camaro-specific note: seat track mounting areas are often cut from the original pan and transferred to the reproduction — plan for that labor when you quote the job.

Don't ignore the subframe

Unlike a unibody-only Mustang, the first-gen Camaro uses a front subframe. Soft floors plus rotten subframe mounts equal a car that will never feel solid. Check:

  • Subframe bushings and mounting pads
  • Frame rails for scale and holes
  • Alignment of door gaps after prior wreck repairs

If the subframe is toast, price that work before pouring money into cosmetics.

Year notes that affect parts

  • 1967 — first year; many early details differ from later cars.
  • 1968 — side markers added; small body changes.
  • 1969 — most popular collector year; many exterior and interior parts are not interchangeable with 67–68.

Always match sheet metal and weatherstrip to the exact year — especially on 1969 projects.

After the weld is done

Seam-seal, protect against moisture, then replace carpet and weatherstripping so water stops feeding the next rust cycle. Browse Camaro body and structural parts on our Camaro parts page.

Solid floors and a sound subframe are what separate a fun driver from an endless money pit. Get the structure right, then chase the shiny parts.
